Day 01

Destination: Galle - Unawatuna

In the early morning our English speaking or German speaking guide will pick you up from the airport and drive you to Galle and Unawatuna in the south of Sri Lanka. In Unawatuna, a nice little guesthouse awaits you and after a rest or the first bath in the Indian Ocean, it goes in the early afternoon to Galle to the Dutch fortress. On a city tour you visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Asia's best-preserved colonial fort is still inhabited and alive today. Let yourself be carried away by the history of the place and then stroll through the historic streets and alleys. Return to the hotel.

Day 02

Destination: Singharaja Rainforest - Udawalawe

Early in the morning we head inland. Drive to the southern part of Singharaja Rainforest, where a naturalist guide is waiting for you. During an approximately 3-hour hike you will get to know part of the last lowland rainforest of the island and see many animals, orchids and endemic plants, which are only native here. Let yourself be enchanted by the atmosphere of the tropical jungle. Then drive towards Udawalawe National Park and visit the Elephant Transit Home on the way. Elephant babies and young elephants are raised here and prepared for the wild in the national park. In the afternoon you reach your hotel on the edge of the national park.

Day 03

Destination: Udawalawe Safari - Ella

Very early in the morning we go on a jeep safari in the Udawalawe National Park. The experienced ranger knows the places of the animals and shows you the beautiful landscape in the Udawalawe NP, which is especially known for its many elephants and other wild animals. After the safari you drive further up in the mountains to the mountain town Ella. You will already come through the first tea plantations, where the famous Ceylon tea grows and past waterfalls. The aim of a short hike is the "Little Adams Peak" at Ella and you will be rewarded with a beautiful panorama of the mountains of Upper Glenn. Overnight in a nice guesthouse overlooking the Ella Gap.

Day 04

Destination: Train Ella - Nanu Oya - Ramboda Falls

In the morning, take the train from Ella to Nanu Oya. This is one of the most beautiful railway tracks through the highlands of Sri Lanka. Big tea plantations, like green carpets, line the way and also the lively life on the train with the hawkers who offer many delicacies and the lively people who quickly make friends show you the true life in Sri Lanka. In Nanu Oya, our tour guide will pick you up and drive you to a tea plantation near Nuwara Eliya. Here you are allowed to pick your own tea, of course, originally hand-made, which is then processed. You can learn a lot about the work and the life of tea-pickers and tea. After "work done", take a short city tour in Nuwara Eliya to Ramboda Falls. Here at the waterfall you will spend the night and today can end the evening.

Day 05

Destination: Kandy

Today, Kandy, the last capital of the Sinhalese kingdom, awaits you. After breakfast, drive down to the rolling hills of Kandy. You will first visit the famous Botanical Garden of Kandy and enjoy the variety of flowers, shrubs and trees of this beautiful place. The former pleasure garden of the last Sinhalese king has a varied history and invites with its beautiful paths and avenues for a long walk. Then visit the Temple of the Tooth, Sri Lanka's most important sanctuary. Here in Sri Dalada Maaligawa a tooth of Buddha is kept, and this relic is not only an object of worship by the Buddhists, but also a symbol of the power and rule of the Sinhala people. Enjoy with the many pilgrims and believers the atmosphere of this place. After that, there is still a bit of time to wander around Kandy before driving to your hotel today.

Day 06

Destination: "Sri Lanka's Aborigines - The Veddahs" - East Coast

In the morning drive towards Dambana to the Veddahs. The Veddhas are the real indigenous people in Sri Lanka. They live in the forest and follow their own traditions. In the village and during a walk in the forest you will learn more about the last indigenous people of the island. Then drive to the east coast to Pasikuda and enjoy the beach life in the next few days.

Day 11

Destination:Trincomalee - Mihinthale - Anuradhapura

In the morning pick up our tour guide again and drive along the charming east coast to the north to Trincomalee, where you visit the old Fort Frederick and the famous Hindu temple Tirukoneswaram. Also, a view of the rock gorge of the Lovers Leap, where the legend after unhappy lovers rushed into the sea awaits you. Afterwards, we head back to the interior via Mihinthale, the cradle of Sri Lankan Buddhism to Anuradhapura, where you spend the night.

Day 12

Destination:Anuradhapura - Sigiriya

Today you will spend the day on the excavation fields of the first Sinhalese royal city of Anuradhapura, which in its time was one of the most important and largest university cities in the Asian region. Let yourself be surprised by the achievements of the ancient times, which are still reminiscent of modern universities. Also, the big temples and the holy Bodhi tree are on the program today. For lunch, a real Sri Lankan delicacy awaits you. Rotis - sweet or spicy - on the fire baked. In the afternoon you drive to Sigiriya, where your hotel is, and you can end the day by the pool with a delicious meal.

Day 13

Destination: Sigiriya - Dambulla - Pinnawala

Early in the morning you will climb the rocks of Sigiriya. Let yourself be enchanted by the story and the stories, the portraits of the cloud girls, the garden and the beautiful panoramic view from the highest plateau of the rock at a lofty height. After your descent you drive to Dambulla to visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site - the cave temples of Dambulla with its many statues and paintings. The journey continues to Pinnawala, where you will find your room in a hotel directly on the "elephant bath river".

Day 14

Destination: Pinnawala - Negombo

In the morning, after breakfast, visit the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala. They can watch the herd feeding, babies feeding milk and then go to the river with the elephants. There the popular pachyderms go about their favorite activity, bathing. For a small tip you may also lend a hand and help the Mahout scrub the elephants. Optional: elephant riding (for a fee)

Then it's back to the west coast to Waikkal, where you can expect a nice hotel by the sea for your last night. Time to relax and a last sunset on the Indian Ocean. Dinner and overnight stay in Negombo H/B

Destination: Negombo - Airport
