Day 01

Destination: Habarana


Early in the morning * our guide will pick you up at the airport or your hotel. It goes to the famous elephant orphanage to Pinnawala. You have time to be close to the pachyderms, to observe them during feeding and the subsequent bath in the river. Then drive north. In Dambulla the cave temples, since 1991 a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are waiting for you. You will be amazed by the paintings and statues from the first century BC to the 20th century. In the afternoon you will arrive at your hotel where you will stay the next 4 nights.

Day 02

Destination: Anuradhapura


After breakfast drive to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's first royal city. You will have plenty of time to visit the huge archaeological site, since 1982 a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dagobas, the holy Bodhi tree, one of the most important Buddhist shrines and the beautiful Isurumuniya Temple (also possible as a bike tour). Your guide will raise the golden age of Anuradhapura from the ruins for you. At lunchtime we stop for Sri Lankan delicacies - sweet and spicy Roti - freshly baked. A day to experience Sri Lanka with all your senses. Return to the hotel.

Day 03

Destination: Habarana


This morning you experience the "living" Sri Lanka. After breakfast we will go on a village tour, with the ox cart and by boat you will learn more about the fauna and flora of our island, before you turn to a farm and learn about rural life, the work, the craft, and last but not least to prepare a delicious curry. The results of the mini-cookery course will be eaten together with your hosts. Return to the hotel. The afternoon is at leisure.

Day 04

Destination: Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa


You leave early to climb the Lion Rock of Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982. At the top there is a wonderful view of the landscape. Be enchanted by the stories and stories of King Kassapa and the Cloud Girl. After the descent, you can relax a little on the bus, as it continues to Polonnaruwa, the second royal city of Sri Lanka and since 1982 a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There you first visit the museum with the documentation of the excavations and impressive reconstructions of the historical buildings in miniature, before you visit the remains of the temples and palaces on the excavation area. Day 05

Destination: Kandy


In the early morning we go to the last Sinhala royal city of Kandy. On the way you will visit a herb and spice garden * and see on a guided tour, which "treasures" once lured the colonial rulers into ancient Ceylon. In Matale you make a short stop to visit the famous Hindu temple Sri Muthumariamman Thevasthanam with its many gods and get a short excursion into Hinduism. In Kandy, visit the Temple of the Tooth, which protects Sri Lanka's largest sanctuary and Buddha's molar. Enjoy the atmosphere of worship by the many pilgrims in this place and learn more about Buddhism. Transfer to your hotel in Kandy. Day 06

Destination: Kandy - Tea Highlands - Nuwara Eliya - Ramboda Falls


Enjoy your breakfast. Then it goes to the famous Botanical Garden of Peradeniya (Kandy). The former royal pleasure garden accommodates domestic, but also many rare, exotic plants. During a guided tour with a German-speaking botanist, you will learn more about Sri Lanka's flora, but also about the history of the botanical garden. Ask him for a "head nut". Then drive to the highlands. Until Nuwara Eliya you will be 400 meters above sea level. rise to 2000 meters. You will pass extensive tea plantations and can observe the pickers during the tea harvest. You visit a tea factory and learn a lot about the secrets of the famous Ceylon tea. The journey continues to Nuwara Eliya, the meeting point of the former tea barracks. On a city tour you will pass the eyewitnesses of this era. Some of the cottages with their rose gardens are reminiscent of English rural life. In the afternoon, you will arrive at your hotel by the Ramboda Falls. Day 7

Destination:Nanu Oya - Ella


In the morning drive to Nanu Oya and enjoy a train ride through the magnificent mountains of Upper Glenn and the Central Highlands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010, past small villages and train stations, extensive tea plantations and stunning waterfalls. Buy a few "Kadele" or chili-flavored fruits from the hawkers who always ride a few stops. Enjoy the view and the lively bustle on the train and at the train stations. Last stop is the mountain town Ella. There you visit the Ella Falls and, in the afternoon, an easy hike to the "Little Adams Peak" is on the plan. Day 8

Destination:Ella - Buduruwagala - Yala NP -Tissamaharama


On this day we will go to Buduruwagala, with the big Buddha statues, to the south. Enjoy the scenery of the Uva Province. Near the Yala National Park, you will move into your hotel and after a short break, make an approximate 4-hour jeep safari in the National Park with its beautiful scenery. Here live u.a. many elephants, buffaloes, red deer, crocodiles and monitor lizards, as well as countless birds. With a little luck you will also see the Sri Lankan leopard. Return to the hotel. Day 9

Destination: South Coast - Galle - Southwest Coast


After a hearty breakfast, drive along the south coast back to the airport or your connecting hotel on the west coast. On the way you will visit the best preserved and still busy colonial city, the Dutch Fort in Galle, since 1988 a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the tour, you will have time to stroll through the streets or enjoy lassis or tea in one of the cafés. Arrival at the airport in the evening or your connecting hotel
